Welcome Travelers!May 28, 2016
On your travels through Munising this Memorial Day Weekend, stop in at the Falling Rock for some grab-and-go coffee, healthy snacks and sandwiches, or spend some time in our gallery and bookstore to appreciate the Michigan made art and browse our selection of new, regional books.
Many of these are unique, hard to find titles published by university presses such as Wayne State University Press and University of Minnesota Press. These books highlight the local natural resources, the history of the U.P. and the culture and peoples of the area. But don’t be fooled. They are not scholarly textbook-type books. They are full of beautiful photos, funny stories, and historical facts to entice both the avid reader who likes to delve deep, and the casual reader who enjoys absorbing more concise pieces of information accompanied by glossy photos. We have an entire set of shelves devoted to the Ojibwe Native American history of the U.P. and a whole set of shelves with gorgeous children’s picture books, appropriate for ages 0-90! Take home a piece of the U.P. so you can curl up with a good book this fall or winter and relive your time Up North!
So many things to do in Upper Peninsula, Michigan
We hope you are able to explore all the wonderful things Munising has to offer this weekend—the boat tours, The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, waterfalls, hiking trails, and the spectacular artwork created by local artists.
But no matter if your weekend is filled with lattes, smoked whitefish, a summer beach read, or a boat cruise, I hope you’ll take a moment and say a prayer of thanks for all the veterans who died in the line of duty so we could have freedom. Enjoy your stay in our beautiful area!
