U.P. Nature Writing Contest Guidelines
All entries must be works of non-fiction. The actual, non-motorized personal experiences, observations and/or appreciations of the author for the natural world of the Upper Peninsula.
Entries must be typed, double-spaced with one-inch margins, no longer than three pages. Please put the essay title on each page.
A non-refundable $5 check must accompany the submission.
The author’s name, address, phone number, email address and essay title should be typed on cover sheet ONLY.
The contest is open to current and permanent U.P. residents only.
One submission per writer. Entries will not be returned.
Five U.P. residents with interest and experience in writing and outdoor fields will be the contest judges.
One winning entry and two honorable mentions will be selected by the judges. Honorable mention winners will receive a Falling Rock Cafe gift card.
The winning entry will be published in September 2015. All entrants will be invited to read their work and discuss nature in writing at gatherings scheduled this fall at Falling Rock and Peter White Library.
