Great Independent Bookstores in Michigan
May 7, 2017We are delighted to be featured this month as one of five Great Independent Bookstores in Michigan in the Lifelong Michigander, a local blog written and run by native Michigander Jeff Burtka that spotlights Michiganders who are making a difference and everything that makes Michigan uniquely wonderful. Thank you, Jeff!
Last Saturday, April 29 was Independent Bookstore Day—a day to celebrate indie bookstores and the crucial role they play in society. We believe independent bookstores are not just stores. They are lively performance spaces and quiet places where thought and conversation flourish, artists are celebrated, and local communities are nurtured and strengthened.
The Falling Rock Café and Bookstore works hard to provide a diverse selection of new and used books, along with a special section dedicated to local authors and regional lore. We have declared ourselves as one of the Upper Peninsula’s most unique bookstores, with over 30,000 titles in subjects ranging from Great Lakes shipwrecks and local Native American history to New York Times Bestsellers and illustrated poetry books.
Our bookstore is host to readings and book signings, book clubs, kids activities, live music, and special events that make our locally-owned independent book store a welcoming hang out for Munising locals, as well as travelers to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the beautiful Lake Superior beaches.
The Falling Rock Café and Bookstore is centrally located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula as you pass through Munising on M-28. Our one and only stoplight is out front of our café. Park down by the water and take in the scenery of beautiful Munising Bay on the Lake Superior shoreline. Stop in for lunch or coffee and stay for the conversation. You won’t leave empty handed!
